Did you know that Portland is one of only four cities in the country to have an extinct volcano in its city limits? Our volcano is the majestic Mt. Tabor. Located in southeast, this park is big enough to spend a whole day in. Catch some rays along the grass banks of the upper reservoir, play tennis or basketball, take the kids to the playground, or bring a picnic to the very top and watch the sunset over downtown Portland. There are enough hiking trails to make the ascent a different way each day of the week. Can you find the statue of former Oregonian editor Harvey W. Scott at the top? That was sculpted by Gutzon Borglum, the guy who did Mt. Rushmore! And tonight (Tuesday) at 9pm, catch a free, R-rated performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Original Practice Shakespeare at the summit!
