Susie Knows Laurelhurst Park (Portland, OR)

I recently took a walk through Laurelhurst Park with a friend, and it reminded me all over again why I love this Portland gem so much. Rain or shine, it’s one of my favorite places to spend time!

This beautiful 31-acre historic park in Southeast Portland is lovely in every season. The mature tree canopy makes it a wonderful place to get outside, even on a rainy day, and there is always something to enjoy. Wander the winding paths, take in the pond, let the kids burn off some energy at the playground, or grab your tennis racket or pickleball paddle and head to the courts.

Whether you’re meeting a friend for a walk, enjoying an afternoon with the family, getting in a friendly game, or simply taking a little time to recharge, Laurelhurst Park is one of those special Portland places that never gets old. It’s just another reason I love calling Portland home!

A Historic Portland Gem Gets a New Chapter

One of the most exciting things happening at Laurelhurst Park is the reopening of The Studio! This charming Tudor-style building dates back to the 1920s and was a longtime home for dance, arts and community programs before closing in 2019. After seven years, it’s officially welcoming the community back, thanks to a partnership between Portland Parks & Recreation and Sellwood Community House.

Even better, this isn’t just a reopening. It’s a restoration of a special piece of Portland history. Sellwood Community House is investing in the building’s improvements and ongoing care, preserving its historic character while making updates to serve the community for years to come.

Today, you can find everything from ballet and creative movement for little ones to gymnastics, hip hop, yoga and dance classes for teens and adults. I love seeing this beautiful old building get a new chapter and once again become a place for neighbors of all ages to connect, learn and have fun!

Tennis & Pickleball at Laurelhurst Park 🎾

The tennis courts at Laurelhurst Park hold a special place in my heart! I used to teach tennis lessons here, so I have plenty of fond memories of spending time on these courts. Today, they’re still a great spot to grab a friend, get some exercise and enjoy a little friendly competition. Whether you’re a longtime tennis player or looking to try your hand at pickleball, the courts offer another fun way to enjoy this beautiful neighborhood park. And if you see me out there, don’t be surprised if I ask you to play a game! 🏓

A Favorite Spot for Four-Legged Friends 🐾

Laurelhurst Park is also a wonderful place to bring your four-legged friends! There’s a designated off-leash area where dogs can run and play, along with miles of beautiful paths to explore together. I love bringing my Westie, Bella, along for a walk here. Between the beautiful tree canopy, winding paths and plenty of new things to sniff, it’s one of our favorite places to get outside and enjoy a little fresh air. It’s easy to see why Laurelhurst Park is such a favorite for both people and their pups! ❤️

With love,

Susie
