Susie Knows Lower Division, Part 2: Let’s Eat

Whether you’re on a budget or looking to splurge or on a diet or looking to indulge in Salt & Straw’s salted caramel ice cream, Lower Division has just the thing. There’s no better food on Earth than the Gobi Manchurian (sweet, fried cauliflower) at Bollywood Theater. I like it even more than the Pok Pok wings with their cult-like following. A fun, inexpensive outing is grabbing sopes (meaty or vegan) at Los Gorditos and eating them on a massive picnic table at the adjoining Apex Bar while sipping one of the 50 beers on tap (sours included!) Ava Gene’s got you covered for a romantic (and Roman) date. Another great date spot that caters to food allergies and vegans is Portobello. I recommend the Portobello Steak and a whiskey cocktail like the Manhattan-esque “Buffalo.” Other must haves: The honey-dipped sopapillas at La Panza, bread from Little T Baker, the airy, sweet chouquettes from St. Honoré, the Tamarind Whiskey Sour from Senyai, and salad, glorious salad, from the just-opening Garden Bar.
