Susie Knows Portland Heights (Portland, OR)

This week we’re visiting the PDX stratosphere as we hike up through some of Portland’s highest elevations: Portland Heights! In this pristine pocket of the Southwest Hills, luxury living abounds in what remains one of Portland’s oldest and most exclusive neighborhoods. But between all of the classic Tudors and Colonial Revivals, there are other (free!) gems to find such as trails, parks, scenic views and great schools:

Views! When you live on the top of Portland, great views aren’t hard to find from any number of easy day hikes steps from your front door. Magnificent 360 degree vistas abound at Council Crest (at a whopping 1,071 feet above sea level!) There used to be a whole amusement park up there back in the 1920s (with a rollercoaster to boot) but now it’s a peaceful expanse for sitting and watching the hustle and bustle of Portland down below. With plenty of grassy space for a picnic.

Schools! A mega perk of growing up in Portland Heights is attending Ainsworth Elementary with its Spanish Immersion Program. While the rest of us dink around on Duolingo every day trying to keep our streaks alive, your child could be just about fluent upon 5th grade graduation…

Trails! A big hiker’s favorite is Marquam Nature Park. The trails here are rugged and hiking boots make them easier, especially in the wetter months. But your glutes and the dogs in your life will thank you for braving the lush terrain.

Dining! Grab a pizza at Vista Spring Cafe or head down the hills into the heart of Portland’s west side dining scenes on NW 21st and 23rd Ave.

Parks! Washington Park and its myriad offerings are close. Play tennis surrounded by blooms at the public courts near the International Rose Test Garden. Take in a quiet stroll through the Japanese Garden. Oregon Zoo & Hoyt Arboretum are right there too!

Homes! Have you heard enough and are ready to move to Portland Heights already? ☺️You’re in luck. This 1924 Exquisite English just hit the market. 4 Beds, 3 Baths & entertaining spaces abound. It has the ultimate party patio with an outdoor kitchen plus a glorious porch for soaking in Portland summer. Vaulted ceilings & fireplace in the stunning owner’s suite. And the spacious daylight lower could be converted to the ultimate guest quarters / mother-in-law suite. I’d love to show this in person or answer your Qs!
