Matt’s BBQ Tacos just opened on Hawthorne and it’s my new favorite place to go when the clock strikes Taco-clock!
The migos and brisket breakfast tacos are out of this world. You have the option of flour or corn tortilla and both are great but the corn is the champ. (Herbivores, go with corn since the flour has lard.)
Then I went back for lunch and tried the mushroom + spinach taco ($4) – the mouth-watering veg option – and had the mountain of chips and guac. A beyond tasty and beyond filling lunch. 10/10 for plant-based flavor.
Do not (I repeat: DO NOT) eat here without a trip to the salsa fridge located near the counter. BBQ, red, green, carrot habanero. The green jalapeno sauce is a miracle. It’s pretty mild on the spiciness scale but packed with flavor. I’d come back for this sauce alone. Then the crew recommended mixing it with salsa roja and now if you’d be so kind as to look away while I drink my sauce cup…
Go here. Go here for a an increasingly-elusive lunch under $10. The crew recommends trying the G.O.A.T. (flour + corn tortilla w/ queso, brisket, pulled pork, guac, pickled red onions and cilantro.) Twist my arm!
The only thing I’d change? I’d make it Open 24 hours 😂
