A month ago I was feasting in Vietnam and since being back in Portland I find myself returning to the stretch of Northeast Glisan lined with Vietnamese eateries that cuts through the Montavilla neighborhood. My favorites so far are the pho and steamed rice crepes at Hanoi Kitchen (with a $1 sesame bun for dessert!) I also love Bui Natural Tofu for on-the-go fresh rolls and the convenient packs of fried tofu – perfect for home stir-fries.
The other best parts of Montavilla are the bustling restaurant row on Stark Street, the ’40s-era Academy Theater, and being at the base of Mt. Tabor (miles of running trails, tennis surrounded by majestic tall trees, huge off-leash area for dogs, and PDX views galore!) Plus, easy access to the interstate can take you downtown or to the airport in no time.
Where should I go next on my PDX Vietnamese food tour?
The sesame bun tip is on point!
