Susie knows Mt. Tabor

Fun fact: Did you know Mt. Tabor is a volcano? Yes, it is. The city park is actually on this volcanic cinder cone. The park is one of the most known and popular parks in Portland, located at SE 60th & Salmon St. This park includes just about everything a park could possibly have, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, picnic area, different running/walking trails, a stage, off leash dog area (Duffy approves), a great playground, and an awesome wedding site. The park puts on tons of different events during the summer like movies in the park, concerts, as well as other specialized events!

This Saturday is actually Mt. Tabor’s 15th annual soap box derby event. Where adults take on the slopes of tabor in their homemade creations. If you have an interest in racing down the hills in a creation of your own and supporting Mt. Tabor park there is still time to register! Go to the link below for more details.

Mt. Tabor is a big park and after an event like the soap box derby, how do they keep the park so clean and nice? The magic comes from the Friends of Mt. Tabor Park, a nonprofit organization that was created in 2000. They do everything from just keeping the park clean to organizing projects and solving different problems that come up with the park. Since the organization is a nonprofit they rely on donations and volunteers. It’s great to see something like this still striving and being successful from donations and volunteers over the years. If you have interest in becoming apart of this or want to learn more about what they do for the park, they will be having a Potluck Picnic at Mt. Tabor tonight from 5:30-7:30, you can pop up anytime during this two hour gap. Great opportunity to meet different members and find out how to get involved.

I have found three different clients wonderful homes on the east side and north side of Mt. Tabor over the past few months. The draw to many is the access to the parks, larger lots in some locations as well as beautiful views if you buy in the right spot. Prices range from a modest bungalow at 500k to million dollar homes.
