Susie & Bella Know NE PDX Dog Parks (Portland, OR)

NE Portland passes the sniff test, literally, now that my dog Bella has made a thorough survey of a few of its dog parks. We’re here today to report our findings as we’ve been leaving our Rose City Park bubble a lot lately to prepare a listing in Alameda/Concordia. The results:

Sacajawea Park – The plus is that this park is a large, fenced expanse but the minus is that, come summertime, there’s no shade!

Wilshire Park – The off-leash (but unfenced) area is great for Bella to run wild and get the zoomies out under tall pines trees, even on the hottest of summer days. Once she’s pooped out, she slows down a bit and escorts me on a nice walk around the park’s outer mulch loop which is great on my knees!

Irving Park – While the off-leash dog area isn’t fenced, it is up on top of the hill so it doesn’t feel like a trained dog is going to run off into the neighborhood/road. In rainy season, the dog traffic can turn this into a bit of a mud pit and Bella looks like she spent the day in a coal mine. Still, a beautiful park with many friendly dogs.

Fernhill Park – A great dog park with even a few hills for doggies with extra energy. Not fenced and near a street, make sure your dog is under voice command for this park. Check out the gorgeous Fernhill Park Nature Patch when you’re there! Jamie’s dog Mia loves it here:

Alberta Park – This off-leash area isn’t fenced but measures a whopping 1.5 acres which is enough space for little Bella to train for a marathon and even the largest dog would find room to let it rip here!
