Susie Knows BBQ (Portland, OR)

Ribs, links, tempeh, oh my! While we’re physically in rainy spring, my mind is already in the summer patio sun eating BBQ and sipping a cocktail. And since we’ve got a long weekend ahead, we’re rolling out our PDX BBQ favorites on the east side. Have we left off your favorite? Let us know!

Matt’s BBQ | 4233 N Mississippi Ave.

I love bringing out-of-town guests to the Prost food carts on Mississippi because there’s a huge variety of dining options from plant-based & heart healthy (at other carts) to the meatiest of the meat-lover’s meat-a-palooza at Matt’s BBQ. Go with a buddy and share a combo plate then wash it down with a beer from Prost! Looking to place a large order in advance? Go here.

Reverend’s BBQ | 7712 SE 13th Ave.

These meat mavens sling fried chicken, ribs, brisket, a rainbow of sauces, hushpuppies and much more including a killer happy hour with a smash burger and wedge salad. The smoked tempeh sandwich will make vegetarians smile and the Moscow Mule with house-made ginger syrup is a must! Plus, there are outdoor seating options for Sellwood people-watching.

Botto’s BBQ | 3120 SE Milwaukie Ave.

Botto’s has a wide variety of options for feeding 1 to 100 from sandwiches to combos to smoked meats by the pound and Whole Meats like brisket, ribs and turkey. There’s a spectacular menu of daily specials including Prime Rib French Dips on Wednesdays, Pastrami Brisket on Thursdays and Burnt Ends on the weekends. And when you’re done eating and still find yourself starving (LOL) … there are Butterfinger Bars and Crack Pies for dessert!

Podnah’s Pit Barbecue | 1625 NE Killingsworth St.

Guy Fieri-approved & the 2011 Willamette Week Restaurant of the Year, Podnah’s is a PDX Institution that Google reviewers have been known to crown the “Best BBQ in Oregon” and “Best BBQ Outside of Texas.” Believe the hype. It’s lasted this long for a reason and is perfect for any meal – including brunch – which serves Whiskey Tango & Smoked Trout Benedicts!

Happy BBQing!
