The Portland Nursery once again has paused its famous annual apple-tasting extravaganza but that hasn’t stopped the apples from being delicious and readily available! The early-varieties are in and the Nursery’s bins are full and everything is $1.99/lb.

I recently bought a variety of their current selection and conducted an apple-tasting of my own with a few friends. Spoiler: The Jonagolds destroyed the Honeycrisps in a shocking upset! Here are the full results:

- First place: Jonagold
- Second: Early Fuji
- Third: Honeycrisp
- Fourth: Swiss Gourmet (Though this was one person’s favorite)
- Last place: Cox’s Orange Pippen (Maybe this was an unlucky pick as it was a little soft and mealy – use this one for baking!)
(If you do conduct an apple tasting of your own, take pics of your apples with their name because they’ll all look the same when you get home!)

And if you do find yourself apple-picking at the nursery, they’ve got their Fall displays up and are stocked with pumpkins for your Halloween needs. Also, a few pears just came in that I look forward to trying in the next couple weeks along with later-harvest apple varieties.
The Portland Nursery Stark location is hosting the apple fest and is located at 5050 SE Stark, Portland, OR 97215.
